My Suggested Black Forest Itinerary

In the heart of Germany, far from the imagined creepy forests of the Brothers Grimm, lies the enchanting Black Forest (Schwarzwald). This stunning region, located in Baden-Württemberg, captivated me during a week-long summer trip, exceeding all expectations. The Black Forest boasts not gingerbread houses, but rather lush forests, breathtaking hiking trails, cascading waterfalls, verdant farmlands, charming cuckoo clocks (their birthplace!), and historic medieval towns.

Due to extensive logging in past centuries, much of the original forest was converted to farmland. However, thanks to local conservation efforts, the forest is gradually being restored to its former glory. This revitalization makes the Black Forest an even more compelling destination for nature lovers.

The Black Forest is easily accessible by flying into Frankfurt to the north or Zurich to the south, followed by a short train ride.

This accessibility makes it a convenient addition to any European itinerary. The region offers a diverse range of experiences, catering to various interests and travel styles.

What’s the best way to explore this captivating region? Here’s a suggested itinerary for one and two-week adventures:
